SO WE ARE ABLE TO PARTNER WITH SHELTERS AROUND THE COUNTRY TO BRING ANIMALS FROM THOSE OVERPOPULATED REGIONS TO OUR STATE FOR HOMES.” OVERCROWDED SHELTERS IN MIAMI SENT 107 DOGS AND CATS TO MAINE THROUGH WINGS OF RESCUE, AN NGO THAT SHIPS EXCESS PETS TO PLACES THAT CAN TAKE THEM IN, LIKELY SAVING THE PETS IN THE PROCESS. “WHEN SHELTERS ARE OVERcrowded, IT HAPPENS BADLY AND PETS DIE. AND THESE PETS THAT ARE SOMETHING AT RISK ARE GOING TO BE GREAT CITIZENS AND GREAT PETS IN PORTLAND.” LUCKILY FOR THE ANIMALS, MAINE DOESN’T SEE SHELTERS OVERCROWDED LIKE MANY OTHER STATES, AND CAN ACCOMMODATE THEM. “WE DO A GREAT JOB SPAYING AND NEUTRING OUR PETS IN MAINE. AND WE HAVE A LOT OF PEOPLE USE THEIR SHELTERS ON THEIR LOCAL SCREENS WHEN THEY’RE LOOKING FOR A NEW FURRY COMPANION.” THANKS TO ANIMAL REFUGE LEAGUE, TODAY’S NEW ARAGUE, TODAY’S NEW RIVALS COULD LOOK LIKE A FURRY PARTNER VERY SOON. “WE ARE GOING TO PUT THEM IN OUR VANS, WE ARE GOING TO BRING THEM BACK TO THE AMAL NI SHELTER LEAGUE. WE ARE GOING TO FEED THEM AND MAKE SURE THEY ARE COMFORTABLE. AND THEN WE WILL START SENDING THEM TO FOSTER HOMES AND SOON THEY WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. IF YOU ARE A FAMILY LOOKING FOR A NEW ANIMAL TO ADOPT, DEFINITELY CHECK WITH YOUR LOCAL SHTEEL

The rescued pets arrived at the Jetport from Florida on Saturday as part of a Wings of Rescue flight, which took animals from overcrowded shelters to Maine, where there is more space. The flight was in cooperation with the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, which says the animals will have a better chance of finding a new home in Maine. “There are many happy homes in Maine that are looking for animals to adopt,” said Jeana Roth of the Animal Rescue League. “So we can partner with shelters across the country to bring animals from those overcrowded regions into our state for homes.” Animals in overcrowded shelters are much more likely to die than in shelters with space. Wings of Rescue is a nonprofit organization that transports animals from overcrowded regions to less crowded regions to save them. You can visit the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland website for information on how to adopt a rescue pet.
