Historical Society Prepares for Chicken Festival | Lifestyle

People will flock to John West Park in Ocean View on Saturday, May 21 for the Ocean View Historical Society’s Chicken Festival.

The long-awaited event, a popular tradition in Delmarva for decades, was canceled and rescheduled due to the pandemic, and is now scheduled for May 21 from noon to 6:30 p.m. In the event of rain, the festival will be on the day following. , Sunday May 22.

Free and open to the public, it will feature fried chicken dishes, prepared in advance by Hocker’s, and smoked chicken, cooked in the park by members of the Doric Masonic Lodge.

Side dishes and dessert will be included with the entrees, all for $10. Bottled water will cost $1 and cans of soda will cost $2. The ice cream will also be for sale with proceeds benefiting the historical society.

Mountaire Farms near Millsboro is donating the chicken.

Among the events will be a Biddy Parade for children, after which they have time to decorate visors donated by Perdue Farms; a Chicken Picking Contest with a prize for the contestant who can remove the most cooked chicken from the bone the fastest; Egg Throwing Contest; and Chicken Kickin’ Dance Contest, said Carol Psaros, who handles the group’s publicity.
